Whether visitors are looking for unique endemic wildlife, untouched landscapes, exciting modern culture or complete tranquillity, Indonesia luxury yacht charters give groups the freedom to go wherever they desire.

Why do people choose Indonesia for luxury yacht charters?
Indonesia, by its sheer size and diversity, is one of the most exciting cruising grounds for yacht charters anywhere in the world. Animal-lovers of all ages will be particularly enamoured by observing orangutans and Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. Underwater is even more enthralling with all of the species one could hope to encounter, such as sea horses and vibrant nudibranchs, different kinds of shark, rays and thousands of fish species.
“In addition to offering some of the most interesting exploration and adventure cruise itineraries, it is also fast developing a modern support and luxury lifestyle infrastructure essential to a successful charter market,” comments Nicolas Benazeth, Director of Charter for CharterWorld.
“An example of this unique mix is the development of the recent fleet of ‘Phinisi’ sailing yachts for charter. These combine a centuries-old seafaring skill and building tradition with the most up to date technology and comfort on a par with superyachts elsewhere in the world.”

Asia Pacific Superyachts, who support and advise luxury yachts in the region on the best destinations and activities, have noted continuing positive interest in developing yachting in the region through establishing excellent marina infrastructure across the country as well as proposals to scrap the luxury goods tax (PPnBM) for the arrival of foreign cruise ships or luxury yachts into Indonesian waters – already significantly lower than other popular destinations in locations such as the Mediterranean.
Both motor yachts and sailing yachts treat guests to sumptuous living spaces and the latest entertainment along with professional chefs and additional onboard
services such as Jacuzzis and spa massage facilities – and there is also the opportunity to head home with a jet ski or Scuba diving licence. For exploring the numerous islands around Indonesia, there is nothing better than to have all the comforts of home whilst still experiencing the charm of a local vessel and knowledge of a local crew.
When is the best time to go?
Indonesia is a year-round destination, with temperatures averaging around 28°C throughout the year. The dry season runs from May to September and is the most popular time to visit, however visitors during the rainy season will find that rain falls heavily in a short sharp burst usually near the end of the day, so you can be back on board relaxing with a massage, film or a family meal before exploring Indonesia at night.
Discovering Indonesia by luxury charter yacht
17,000 volcanic islands make up the Indonesian region and visitors will find the friendly and welcoming locals as varied in their culture and customs as the magnificent landscapes.
“Less visited, but no less interesting, a range of other destinations offer perfect shoulder season cruising anywhere from Sumba to Banda and the spice islands, the mysterious Ceram sea and the macro diving mecca of Sulawesi’s coast,” says Nicolas Benazeth, Director of Charter for CharterWorld.
Jakarta is ideal for international travellers arriving and departing Indonesia, with plenty of galleries, museums and high-end brands to keep the group entertained before or after a flight.
Perhaps the most famous destination among the Indonesian Islands is Bali, where cultural sites such as temples and national parks surround bustling cities fringed with pale sand beaches. After snorkelling, fishing and playing in the waves of the crystal clear waters, visitors can immerse themselves in the local nightlife or find a sheltered cove to take in the starry night skies.
The Komodo National Park is home to the Komodo dragon and boasts some spectacular crescent bays that wildlife photographers and artists will relish the opportunity to capture.
Snorkelers and scuba divers will be in their element gliding along with manta rays, sighting pygmy seahorses and swimming past thriving coral reefs, while up above kayakers, sailboats and kite surfers will have plenty of breezes to keep cool while cruising around the bays.
Timor-Leste, which gained independence from Indonesia in 2002, has a coastline boasting sprawling coral reefs that make the destination ideal for family charter groups with younger children.
“In the far east of the country, Raja Ampat which is quickly becoming the most sought after ‘adventure’ charter destination and a favourite of scuba divers, nature enthusiasts and those wanting exotic cultural experiences alike,” Nicolas adds.
“Once a well-kept secret for a handful of scuba divers, Raja Ampat is fast becoming a must-see for any charterer who wants a bit more excitement, or just the feeling of being anchored in a truly untouched bay surrounded by nature as it was millennia ago and enjoying a superb meal of freshly caught fish.”

Cruising on to other destinations
Indonesia is an excellent destination to begin or end a luxury yacht charter, or become a leg in a longer cruise itinerary: The international airport in Jakarta is closely positioned to the marina, and after a thrilling holiday in Indonesian waters guests can cruise up to Thailand and Myanmar (Burma), or down along the coast of Australia to visit the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays.
“There are few other destinations offering year-round charter opportunities, with cruises in the Bali, Lombok and Komodo regions being conveniently at their peak in the northern hemisphere summer holidays and Raja Ampat being best visited between November and April. Less visited, but no less interesting, a range of other destinations offer perfect shoulder season cruising anywhere from Sumba to Banda and the spice islands, the mysterious Ceram sea and the macro diving mecca of Sulawesi’s coast.”

Twin Yanmar engines power the yacht averaging speeds of 10 knots.
Videoworks, the company behind the entertainment and domotic systems aboard cutting edge 35m/115ft sailing yacht SATISFACTION, has provided insight into the technology and choices throughout the development process that has resulted in this luxurious high-performance yacht.
Sailing yacht SATISFACTION
S/Y SATISFACTION is the first yacht in the SW105 mini-series and was designed for an Owner who requested ‘house-like ergonomics’ in the design in addition to excellent cruising capability.
While Farr Yacht Design created her naval architecture, Nauta Design was in charge of the interior concept and the brief called for an integrated system for the audio-visual and domotic needs of the Owner and guests.
One of the features different to most superyachts is a centralised rack system that creates more efficient use of space by avoiding the placement of localised racks throughout the yacht.
As a result, the guest cabins only contain speakers and TV screens, ensuring that the crew do not need access to the cabin should any maintenance be required.
The Owner requested that top quality audio brands be used throughout S/Y SATISFACTION, and as a result, the interior is furnished with Bowers & Wilkins B&W CCM 382 speakers while outside the audio systems are ready for parties and all weather conditions with the waterproof Sonance VP65R-XT speakers.
Videoworks has also implemented an HDBaseT video distribution system that is a noticeable improvement over HDMI cables, the industry standard for AV signal transmission but which only have a maximum distribution range of 15m/49ft. Onboard SATISFACTION, full HD digital video, audio, Ethernet, and various control signals can be transmitted through a single LAN cable and converted back into HDMI by each TV set through a low-profile receiver.
The wireless LAN controller also produces global Wi-Fi coverage and management, and wireless bottlenecks are avoided through the use of multigigabit Cisco Catalyst switches that support networking devices.
In the crew mess, there is a 4K Aquavision TV screen with a mirrored surface. The first waterproof TV was created by Aquavision in 1997 and they have since been designed for work environments such as galleys.
iPad tablets manage all AV and domotic controls for lighting, curtains, blinds and air conditioning, and guests can change their environment through customisable touch commands.
iPad tablets with customisable touch commands
Lastly, Owners and crew can monitor essential information such as charting, CCTV or weather forecasting on personal devices using Videoworks’ MyInfo system, ensuring better security and more time to react to a situation, as well as to prepare and change plans based on the weather at the upcoming destination.
Videoworks Owner Mauro Pellegrini said of the project:
“We are very proud and honoured to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Southern Wind on this project. Southern wind is a prestigious brand that combines the best styling with the most updated technology in the sailing yacht world. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the management and technicians of the company with whom we have had the privilege of collaborating onboard this outstanding yacht.”
Sailing yacht SATISFACTION from South African shipyard Southern Wind was joined by sistership KIBOKO TRES in October 2018, and a third SW105 hull is due for launch before the end of the year.
